Google GDrive , Is Google planning to offer remote backups thru Google Gdrive?

Google Gdrive :A (supposedly) Google gaffe has given rise to theories about Google offering Google Gdrive, a remote backup virtual internet drive for all users.

While some people already use Gmail as a kind of Gdrive , at least for their Outlook and large files, a formally christened Google Gdrive will rise to usual conspiracy theories about Google controlling all the world's mission critical data and messages. Google could then mine the data and drive more personalized ads to the individual users.

My 2 cents on Google Gdrive :- Wait till the fat lady sings.

I have been talking to some clients about darknet as a honeypot measure and find them largely as clueless as I expected. The whole concept of having honeypot intrusion detection as a measure to trap intruders is scary for clients.

In that context, darknets are treated as an unnecessary investment that could potentially expose your corporate network to the friendly neighborhood hacker.

Darknets are really isolated networks that no one has any business to access. So, any user who accesses darknets is really a hacker or unauthorized attacker.

In view of the recent Katrina and Rita disasters , there is a sudden flurry among IT departments to get disaster recovery plans done... As is typical of this industry, I got about 5 calls last week from my clients asking for disaster recovery templates to create their disaster recovery plans.

Give me a break,guys!! Each disaster recovery plan has to be thought over by internal employees and customized to your requirements- No disaster recovery template will solve that problem for you..

I had an interesting conversation with a CIO this week .. He felt that the whole network security topic was blown out of proportion and had no relevance to his small 1000- person organization. His no-network-security-for-me argument- The hackers and crackers are busy breaking into Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies and will not have time for a small 20 million dollar organization. An interesting argument that assumes that all hackers would do a 80-20 cost benefit analysis before breaking into sites.. :-0)

It suddenly came to me yesterday- what we need are universal recovery disks. Each PC manufacturer in the world is holding us hostage by not providing adequate recovery disks.

At the first whiff of a virus, the windows xp pc crashes- and u find there is not a windows xp recovery disk available for that manufacturer and customer support at 10$/minute (*!&@ ) tells you a recovery disk is not available NOW or will be mailed to you in about 2000 years time..

Hey guys, why doesnt some enterprising software recovery disk expert come up with an universal recovery disk- that works on all computers (Dell recovery disks,Compaq recovery disks, IBM recovery disks, Lenovo recovery disks,HP recovery disks etc)

1)Create recovery disks using any free (hooray) antivirus software. Read free antivirus software reviews
(2) Read simple steps on windows xp recovery disks ,hp recovery disks,compaq recovery disks for almost (!) a whitepaper (for non-geeks) on recovery disks
3) Insert the floppy disk and recover your pc! So simple!

a) Disk recovery lie!! -- Some pc manufacturers will tell you that u can recover disks only using their own recovery disks in the original packaging (which u lost ages ago)

Dont believe them! You can easily recover hp,dell,compaq and IBM pcs and disks using your own recovery disks

b) Its tough to create recovery disks! --- Do you have any antivirus software? That should be good enough for you to create recovery disks! Any antivirus software,even a free one such as AVG will let you create recovery disks

c) Its tough to recover using recovery disks! What a joke! Even a self-respecting four-year-old can recover using recovery disks!
